Setting up RefGrab-It

What is RefGrab It?

RefGrab-It works with your web browser to capture bibliographic information from web pages and import that information into your RefWorks account.

Please note it does not work with the Chrome browser or pdf documents.

 

How do I set it up?

You will need to initially download RefGrab-It.

  • From the Tools area (in RefWorks) select RefGrab-It.

To download the bookmarklet in IE:

  • This may vary according to the version of IE you are using.
  • You will need to turn off pop-up blockers through Tools - Pop-up Blockers on your browser.Adding Bookmarklet
  • This will add RefGrab-It to your favourites list.
  • You may also add RefGrab-It to the links toolbar instead of the Favourites. You may need to go into View - Toolbars (on your browser tool-bar) and tick the Links option for it to show in your browser.

 

Please note: RefGrab-It doesn't work with pdf files.

Example of its use

  • Go to the web-site that you want to capture the details for e.g. http://tees.ac.uk
  • Click on RefGrab-It in your Favourites toolbar.

  • You may get a cream security banner appearing about pop-up blockers - set this to allow them from this site. You will now need to go back and click on the RefGrab-It link again.
  • A RefWorks page should now appear showing the details of the web-site, select the reference then click on the Import to RefWorks button.    Selecting and importing
  • The details of the web-site will be automatically imported into your RefWorks account.
  • Click on the View Last Imported Folder button to see the reference.
