We are Ellen Robins and Samantha Westerburg and we’re the Retention Support Officers (RSOs). We are part of the Learning, Support and Development team in Student and Library Services, working within individual Schools to support students with a varying range of support needs. We assist students who are experiencing issues that may be affecting their engagement with academic studies. We work with Schools and central support services to find the most appropriate support for students. Students can be referred to us by a member of staff or can self refer.
We have links with academic, administrative and support staff within Schools and can liaise with the student and staff in order to find the most suitable and timely support available, as well as discussing what academic options are available for the student. In addition, we can make referrals into central support services and advise students on what support is available throughout the University.
Here is small sample of some of the more common scenarios where we can help. This list doesn’t cover all that we do, so if you think we can be of assistance please contact us:
We work directly with students and with staff across many different Schools and Departments including (but not limited to):
