What are Archives?

Archives are records created or received by organisations or individuals during the course of their daily activities and interactions.  They are selected for preservation because of their continuing administrative, legal or historical value and they provide primary evidence of the activities, events and processes that generated them.

What are Special Collections?

Special Collections are often printed books or journals related to a particular topic, place, person or organisation.  They have been gathered together specifically as resource material and are treated differently to general library collections because they may be rare or fragile.
