Most new students go through a "negative" period when feelings of loneliness and homesickness dominate. 

You are not the only one feeling like this, even if everyone else seems happy and settled.

Faced with so many new experiences, it is not surprising that you crave familiarity and security.

This may be even more noticeable because of:

  • sudden lifestyle changes
  • University may seem an anticlimax after looking forward to it for so long
  • being overwhelmed by the potential workload
  • not particularly liking who you are living with
  • not immediately finding friends
  • living away from home and look after yourself domestically for the first time
