Student writing Develop your essay writing skills

This optional module covers some key skills when writing essays:

  • Finding quality information
  • Academic Writing
  • Structuring an assignment
  • Referencing and in-text citations

The module runs online via MS Teams over 4 consecutive weeks. This semester it will run from Wednesday 1st October to Wednesday 22nd October 2025, and the sessions take place from from 1-2pm. The sessions will be recorded and made available on the Teams site.

Searching skills (optional module)

Searching on a computerDevelop your systematic literature searching skills

This optional module is designed to support final / penultimate year undergraduate students and taught postgraduates who need to carry out a systematic search for a dissertation/systematic review in health.

The module covers the key skills needed for advanced searches:

  • Planning the search
  • Advanced searching techniques
  • Managing search results

The module also provides 2 opportunities for feedback on your search strategy.

The module runs online via MS Teams over 5 consecutive weeks - there are 4 taught sessions and a drop-in. This semester it will run from Friday 3rd October 2025 to Friday 31st October 2025, and the sessions take place from 12noon-1pm. The taught sessions will be recorded and made available on the Teams site.
