In this type of tutorial you can get support with:
- Searching for books and journals using Discovery
- Using the online subject specific databases for health
You can book a tutorial with one of our health librarians: Iain, Julie, Nicola or Gemma.
We can offer support via face to face appointments on campus at Middlesbrough or via Teams. Please indicate on the booking form what type of appointment you would prefer. Remember to check the directions section to see if face-to-face is available for your chosen time.
You can book a tutorial via this link: https://tees.libcal.com/appointments?lid=11&g=157 or by clicking on the button below.
Before booking a tutorial, please ensure you have looked at the online support materials available:
Structured searching for health students (using CINAHL and other databases) - This guide includes information on planning a structured search in CINAHL or MEDLINE, using Boolean operators, advanced search techniques and PICO. There is a workbook, written guides and videos. Guidance on using EMBASE, SCOPUS, Maternity and Infant Care, PubMed and Cochrane Library is also available via the 'Further Support' tab.
Systematic Review Support - This guide is aimed at postgraduate researchers, who are carrying out a full systematic review. However, students on other levels of study, such as a taught postgraduate course who need to search systematically for a literature review, may find parts of the guide helpful too.
During busy times of year the appointments can get booked up very quickly so may not always be available.
Students should only book ONE appointment per week with the health team. This is so that after the tutorial, students can work independently to improve their work, based on the advice given.
If all the appointments are booked, keep an eye on the online booking page to see if there are any cancellations and when more appointments are added. The appointments are only visible 2 weeks ahead, so each weekday more may get released (depending on availability).
