Top-class Library Management System launches Summer 2024

The Library is proud to introduce sector-leading Library Management System Ex-Libris. Live from Summer 2024

Ex-Libris is a sector-leading Library Management System (LMS) used by many leading HE libraries. The LMS connects and enables the core functions of the Library. University investment in this high-end LMS solution, opens up outstanding possibilities for developing the innovative ways library services and collections underpin teaching, learning and research. The Ex-Libris product will enable The Library to enhance and personalise engagement, surface collections, enhance discovery and generate analytics and impact evidence to inform decisions, articulate ROI and drive excellence. The Library LMS Project Team began implementation in January and the new LMS will go live this summer.

Ex-Libris delivers a suite of integrated systems. The impact of investing in these solutions will be significant. The University has invested in:

Alma: a flexible, unified learning platform that connects all aspects of delivery across the Library. This new platform will enable a more personalised and joined-up experience for our customers, which will contribute to their experience and success. Alma will enable our customers to operate more efficiently and enable us to surpass customer expectations and deliver upon institutional goals.

Primo: an intuitive discovery solution which invests in revolutionary AI technologies such as conversational search to deliver insights and access across Library online and print collections. From a single search interface Primo will return a relevant mix of resources related to a research query in a single interface, from any device. The platform also demonstrates the value of Library collections through advanced analytics.

Rialto: a one-stop vendor-neutral marketplace for academic content from a variety of publishers, aggregators and platforms. Rialto creates a seamless, unified, end-to-end library workflow from requests and searches to selection, acquisition, and discovery. Rialto supports decisions with Recommendation Feeds to surface high-value/best-fit content to support learning, teaching and research. Rialto improves staff productivity and synchronization thereby enhancing the overall customer experience.

RapidILL: RapidILL is a fast and cost-effective interlibrary loan tailored for article and book chapter requests. Customers receive their requested material faster using the same requesting mechanisms they are familiar with.

The Library Team look forward to updating you on key project milestones over the coming months.  Once each element of the system becomes live, we look forward to showcasing the benefits to you and working with you to integrate and reflect them in your content and practice.

Please note that our current reading lists system Talis Aspire will be integrated into the new Ex-Libris system.

You can find more information about Ex-Libris here https://exlibrisgroup.com/ and about our project implementation and future plans by contacting the Library at libraryhelp@tees.ac.uk.

Creating and editing Reading Lists important date

The creation of lists in Reading Lists Online (RLO) for the academic year 2024-25 will happen mid/late July, which is later than previous years due to the introduction of the new library management system. The new system covers the major aspects of the library’s operations such as ordering resources and books, user records, borrowing, stock management, and the Discovery search.

Please do not edit, publish, or make any further changes to any lists in RLO after 21 June, including the creation of Subject to Approval lists, whilst we prepare for the move to the new library management system. Once the new system is operational and the reading lists for 2024-25 are available academic staff will be notified via email.  In the meanwhile, should you have any queries please contact your Academic Librarian
