I am a student at another university - can I join the Library?

You may be able to join free of charge through the SCONUL Access Scheme if your home institution participates. Please check the website for further information & an application form at http://www.sconul.ac.uk/sconul-access.  Please note that we do not currently permit access to our electronic resources through the SCONUL Access Scheme due to licensing restrictions. Further details are shown below.

SCONUL Access Scheme

Teesside University is a member of the SCONUL Access scheme which is a co-operative venture between most HE libraries in the UK allowing the following to visit and borrow materials from participating libraries in addition to their home libraries:

  • full time postgraduates
  • all part-time students
  • distance learners
  • students on placement (of 6 weeks and longer)
  • postgraduate research students
  • teaching staff and
  • research staff

Full time undergraduates can have access to some libraries for reference purposes. Not all universities are in the Scheme and the agreement does not always extend to the use of electronic resources or access to general IT. A list of participating institutions their available services and a link to registering online can be found at http://www.sconul.ac.uk/sconul-access

WiFi access

If you are from an institution that is participating in the Eduroam service, you may be able to use your laptop in the Library to connect to the internet via the wifi. Please check the IT Help Centre site for more information at https://extra.tees.ac.uk/helpcentre/public/pages/default.aspx.

I'm on an Access to Higher Education Course - can I join the Library?

Yes - we offer support and membership to students on Access to Higher Education Courses based at local colleges.  The first thing you need to do is to register with the Library and get your TUSC (Teesside University Smart Card)

What do I need to register?

Ask your Access tutor for a registration form. Complete it and return it to your tutor who will sign it and send it to us.

You can then collect your TUSC from the Library's iZone. Your membership will last for 1 year and you will be entitled to borrow up to 6 books.

You will also be given a 4 digit PIN (personal identification number) which you need to borrow books (along with your TUSC) and also enables you to renew or reserve books.

Borrowing books

Your membership entitles you to a blue external membership which allows you to borrow up to 6 books on standard loan.  These items have white date labels.  Please note fines for late return of borrowed items will apply.

Go to Renewals to find out how to renew your books.

Check the Library Catalogue to find out what books we have in stock, reserve items or renew your loans

Photocopying/scanning

Photocopying facilities are available, charges apply. Scan to email is free of charge.  Please ask at the iZone for further details.
