Using feedback effectively

Questions to ask yourself about feedback

Here is a range of prompts and guidance for approaching assessments in a mindful way.

Feedback questions

Receiving feedback proactively
  • Am I clear on how to improve my work from feedback received?
  • If not, how can I seek to clarify it or get support?
  • What opportunities are there for me to receive feedback information early on in the assessment process to help me know my progress e.g. tutorials, seminars, peer discussion, and not just my tutor?
  • How can I use the feedback I receive (as well as assessment criteria and learning outcomes of my course) to accurately self-assess and self-correct my performance in the future
Seeking interaction and dialogue
  • Can I seek out opportunities for my peers and I to assess and provide feedback on each other's work using (pre)set criteria e.g. exemplar work, before submission?
  • Can I plan how I will do the assessment task by producing and sharing a concept map with my peers?
Acting on feedback
  • Are there opportunities for me to gain different perspectives in feedback through talking to peers or participating in a debrief tutorial or seminar activities?
  • Can you write down 1-3 action points alongside the feedback you have received identifying 'next steps' to improving your performance?
