Please remember that when you take out books from the Library they are your responsibility. You should not give them to other people or leave them unattended.
Once you have finished with your loans you should return them as soon as possible to allow other customers to borrow them and also to prevent a replacement costs invoice created on your University account. Outstanding invoices can prevent you from receiving your results, re-enrolling or your graduation.
If you believe you have lost a book you should email libraryhelp@tees.ac.uk or visit the Welcome Desk on the ground floor of the library, as soon as possible to report this and request an invoice. Prior to creating the invoice we will carry out some checks to make sure the book has not been returned to the Library.
If you damage a book please email libraryhelp@tees.ac.uk or visit the Welcome Desk on the ground floor of the library, as soon as possible to report this. All items loaned on your account are your responsibility and you will be required to pay the standard book charge.
If a book on your Library account is stolen please email libraryhelp@tees.ac.uk or visit the Welcome Desk on the ground floor of the library, as soon as possible to report this. All items loaned on your account are your responsibility and you will be required to pay the standard book charge.
Whenever possible you should report thefts to the Police and obtain a crime number, you may be able to recover any costs through your insurance.
How much is the standard book charge?
There is a standard charge of £75 for most items.
If you believe you may have mitigating circumstances that have led to Library invoices, please email libraryhelp@tees.ac.uk or visit the Welcome Desk on the ground floor of the library and a Duty Supervisor will help you. You may be asked to provide documentary evidence, such as a doctor's note or a letter from a lecturer.
If you find the book, then please return it to us as soon as possible and advise Library staff to ensure that the invoice and any stop on your account is cleared, any associated overdue fines for this item will stand and should be paid as soon as possible.
If you find the book after you have paid the invoice then you should email libraryhelp@tees.ac.uk or visit the Welcome Desk on the ground floor of the library. If the book is in a suitable condition we may arrange for a refund of the cost of the book once you have returned the book to the Library.
If your item is an inter library loan and you lose or fail to return it, a standard charge of £214.30 will be applied, for expensive or rare items the charge may be higher.
This charge is set by the British Library and is non-negotiable, failure to return your loans when asked will result in the charge being applied even if you subsequently return the items, for more information see the link below.
