The Inter Library Loan (ILL) service gives staff and students of Teesside University access to material not currently held by the Library.
From 15th July 2024 there's a change in how you request inter library loans.
Our updates will make it easier for you to place, manage, renew, and cancel requests, all from within Discovery itself.
The new inter library loan request form is located within the Discovery page.
More and more resources are now freely available online so check Discovery and Google before placing a request.
You can place a request directly from the Discovery record of your required resource. In your search results toggle the switch to "Expand results beyond Teesside's collections", this enables you to view additional titles matching your search criteria. Open the record of your required resource, in the "How to get it" section you have the option to place an inter library loan request. If this option isn't visible ensure that you have signed in to Discovery at the top right of the screen. PhD students should ensure they are using their student log in credentials, not their staff ones.
The request form will auto-populate with the details of the record. Add as much detail as you can to assist us in finding your request. Fields marked with a red asterisk are mandatory.
A blank request form is also available from the menu options at the top of the screen.
Please note that book requests will only be fulfilled in a physical format. If you request a book in digital format, it will automatically be converted to a physical format request. Likewise, if multiple chapters of a book are requested (exceeding the current copyright legislation of one chapter per book title) we will try to supply a physical copy of the book, if this is not possible, we will contact you via email.
Tick the box at the bottom of the form to confirm that you have read and acknowledged the copyright statement.
Click "Send request", a green banner will confirm it has been submitted.
To ensure your request can be processed promptly, please complete the request form with as much detail as possible, including volume, issue and page numbers where appropriate. If you have a DOI or web link to the resource you require please also include that.
Incomplete information will result in a delay to your request being processed. It may be rejected, or returned to you for additional information.
In order to promptly supply your request we may need to provide the British Library with your University email address only. You can read the British Library's Privacy Policy here.
When you've placed an inter library loan request the request details will be immediately available for you to view in the My Account section, accessed by clicking on your name in the top right corner of the Discovery page, you may need to sign in. Open the Requests tab.
From here you can view the detail of the inter library loans you've placed. You can also cancel and request renewals of requests from this page.
If you need to cancel or renew a request placed before 15th July 2024 please contact libraryhelp@tees.ac.uk
