Library opening information

Middlesbrough Campus Library opening hours are detailed on the Library homepageServices are available for Teesside University Students and Staff only via TUSC. Currently there is no access for External or SCONUL Access customers. 

Mask wearing is no longer a legal requirement but is still recommended, please respect the space and distance of others who choose to continue wearing them.

Entry to the Library

Access control gates are fitted at the entrance to Middlesbrough Campus Library, Teesside University students and staff need a TUSC to enter and exit the library. The use of controlled access helps to improve the management of the Library learning environment.

Please remember to swipe in and swipe out with your TUSC each time, otherwise you may have problems entering the Library on subsequent visits.

To select TUSC related actions such as cancel or replace a lost TUSC use the MyTUSC link below.

Symmetry Blue

You are required to have your TUSC to enter/exit the Library during all opening times. However, you may also use the Symmetry Blue app on a mobile device. 

You can register your mobile device via the MyTUSC page and choose Your Card from the top menu and then choose Register Bluetooth Device

Study environment and floor guidance

Middlesbrough Campus Library offers a variety of study environments, in zones designated by floor. 


The Ground floor of the Library provides space for group study including networking. The iZone, Borrow / Return / Renew, The Learning Hub, Learning Pods, The Hive and The Learning Cafe are all situated on this floor.

Please remember that this is a learning space and the focus should still be on working. Drinks and food are permitted on this floor






Floor 1 is designated for group study

Books 001 - 319, Group space and Collaborate Pods are based on this floor.

Floor 2 is designated for individual quiet study.

Books 320 - 610, individual study spaces, iPad loans, Teaching spaces L2.02 and L2.05, Tutorial room L2.01, L2.03 and L2.04 and Accessible room L2.06 are on this floor.

Floor 3 is designated for silent study

Book 611- 999, Individual study spaces, Fiction collection, Wellbeing collection and Teaching spaces L3.01 and L3.02 are on this floor.

The Postgraduate Space is situated on Floor 4 has a designated quiet space and silent space for postgraduate students and researcher students only. Access is via TUSC. Use the link below for more information for Researchers.

Too noisy?

If someone is disturbing your study by chatting or making a noise, you can let us know in the following ways:

  • inform a member of staff

  • email - monitored Monday- Friday 09:00 - 17:00

  • text 07557 082824 - monitored 09:00 - 17:00, 7 days a week  (Texts will be charged at your normal network rate.)   

Give brief details of the problem stating which floor you are on and your location on the floor.


Floor 3

When working on Floor 3 please ensure laptops, phones etc are switched to mute and move to another floor before answering calls. Please remember Floor 3 is for silent study.
