Finding theses

You can search for and download electronic theses using ETHOS which is a British Library database of theses published by UKHE institutions

Please note: Following a cyber attack on the British Library the EThOS service is currently unavailable. Teesside University Doctoral theses can be searched on the Teesside University Research Portal. Please contact libraryhelp@tees.ac.uk if you require support accessing theses.

Do I need to register?

You will need to register and log in if you want to download a thesis or to order digitisation of a thesis.

How do I find what I am looking for?

1. Most theses are freely available for download and have the open access symbol to indicate this

2. You can also request theses that are not yet available electronically. Click on the download and delivery option and complete the form. There may then be a delay whilst permission is sought from copyright holders and the text is digitised before you are able to access

3. EThOS can only supply theses from participating institutions.  If you are looking for a specific thesis which does not show up in the results, check the list of institutions to see if the relevant University is participating in the EThOS scheme. List of participating institutions will be updated when EThOS is available again.

Access to most theses is free but if you are asked for payment or need any further information please contact  libraryhelp@tees.ac.uk Academic Librarian (Research Support).
