Support and guidance

The Library has a wide range of online resources that can help you with your research and academic study skills in our LibGuides and Subject LibGuides. The resources include: detailed descriptions and instructions, videos, workbooks, recommended further reading and useful links.

The University and Library also offer a range of workshops to support your study and research skills. Succeed@Tees and Succeed@Research calendars have details of up and coming workshops. 

For Researchers and PhD students, ENRICH (researcher development programme) takes a blended approach to learning, with a mix of independent e-learning, webinars, peer mentoring, and guided tasks. You can book onto these session via their booking form

For International students the English Language Centre (ELC) also offers a range of free in-sessional services.

If you are an academic, a researcher or a doctoral student (Level 8) you can also book an appointment with the Research Support team who can provide advice on a variety of topics including: literature searching, keeping up to date and making your research open access. Research Support

If you are an academicresearcher or a postgraduate doctoral student (Level 8) you can book an appointment with our Research Support Academic Librarian, David Watson and Assistant Academic Librarian, Daisy Campbell for help and advice with:

  • Induction (Academic staff, Early Career Researchers, Postgraduate Doctorial Students)
  • Reference management software (Endnote, Refworks, etc)
  • Scholarly communications 
  • Getting published open access (journal articles, books and monographs, and book chapters)
  • Research Data Management (including Research Data Management Plans)
  • Literature searching (including systematic reviews)
  • Critical appraisal
  • Basic NVivo

Literature Searching FAQ – This guide provides answers to frequently asked questions and links to other guides that can assist with literature searching, conducting a systematic review, and finding theses.

Research Data Management- This guide provides a step-by-step overview of the data management process and includes guidance on how to fill out a DMP Online form to create your data management, links to the University’s Data Management policy and how to manage and publish your data.

Reference Management – This guide provides an overview of reference management and includes detailed guides on how to use RefWorks and EndNote, and information on TU Schools referencing styles.

Getting Published This guide provides information on open access publishing, transformative agreements, funder policies and routes to publishing your work open access. It also has information on the steps to getting published and traps to avoid.
